The Forum for Equality and Diversity in Somerset (FEDS) is established, amongst other things, to promote equality of opportunity and to encourage cohesion between different groups of people
in Somerset. With this in mind the decision was made to organise ‘an event’ for the people of Somerset on 27 April 2007. This concept evolved into ‘One Somerset’, an event to bring together the six equalities strands – known as faith, race, gender, age, sexual orientation and disability – to educate, entertain and celebrate!
One of One Somerset’s main aims was ‘to educate’, we endeavoured to do this through providing free workshop opportunities.
To work towards achieving the aims of ‘entertaining’ and ‘celebrating’ we planned the One Somerset stage. The stage formally began the event with opening speeches starting at 11 am, the performances got underway at 12 noon and ended at 8.30 pm.
